How great is this? Musings on Medicine & Healthcare; A Nurse’s Point of View is taking off and I’m getting wonderful feedback. Thank you so much to all those who read my posts, gave feedback, and subscribed. A special thank you to those of you who pledged some money for when I move part of this newsletter to a paid subscription. This means you Beth, Lorri, Katy, and Carol!
And on August 1, that time arrives. But don’t worry – there will always be a free option for people who choose not to move up to the paid category and for those who are just discovering my work. I believe in providing good writing for anyone and everyone. The free issue will continue to land in your email box or your Substack app on Wednesday mornings (usually!). You are free to enjoy and share those as much as you want.
Now let me explain the paid options
Why offer a paid subscription? I remember my parents getting magazines in the mail every month. My mother got Good Housekeeping, McCall’s, and Redbook. My father got Reader’s Digest, Time, and many others. I loved reading those. When I moved out on my own, I got my own subscriptions for various magazines, picking up others at the store. But, times move on and the landscape has changed.
In my mind, the newsletters here at Substack have taken the place of those magazines. I subscribe to a few – some paid, some free – and I enjoy the opportunity to read what other people are sharing.
That said, it takes time to think up topics, do research, and write the newsletters. I love what I do, but writing is how I earn my living. So a paid subscription option helps. The more successful the newsletter becomes, the more time I can spend on it and the more I can offer to you. While I can’t imagine this will ever become a full-time endeavor, if I can earn enough from the newsletter, I can stop seeking out new clients and new work, allowing me to focus on current clients and projects.
If you choose the $5.00/month (the salespeople say that this is less than the cost of a cup of coffee 😊 ) or $50/year option, you will receive the weekly Monday Musings in addition to the Wednesday issues. You will also get extras if there is timely news or something in particular that I feel can’t wait. Given how news-addicted I am, you’re almost assured of extras!
Want more? The paid subscription issues will have voice-overs. This includes the Wednesday issue; free subscribers will have the print; paid subscribers will have the audio option as well. You can listen rather than read if you want.
There will be other goodies added over time. I will have book reviews, and hopefully guest posts from other authors, Q & As, behind-the-scenes information about Decipher Your Health, and things like that. Who knows what the future holds?
I haven’t forgotten the founding members
If you wish to support me by being a founding member and you are one of the first 30 people to do so, I will send you a signed, physical copy of my book Just the Right Dose; Your Smart Guide to Prescription Drugs & How to Take Them Safely or Fits, Starts & Matters of the Heart – a compilation of essays, one of which is mine. It’s about when my oldest son left home. There are 10 copies of Just the Right Dose, and 20 of Fits, Starts & Matters of the Heart. I’ll reach out for your mailing address. If you don’t want a copy, just let me know that and I’ll find another way to thank you.
I’ll have to think of something else when I run out of books!
So, thank you again to everyone who takes the time to read my work and especially to those who share it. I think there’s a place for interesting health-related information with a bit of opinion thrown in.
And now… if you haven’t subscribed, please do! Free or paid; it’s all up to you.
Oh! And share! Sharing is good! :-)
Wonderful news! I will be a paid subscriber happily and enjoying your Newsletter!
